Just swap this drop in conversion with the bolt carrier group from your 5.56/.223 chambered rifle and you will be ready to shoot .22LR. For best performance use a round style hammer as notched hammers can cause function issues and 36 grain plated nose bullets have proven to be the best choice for function. The CMMG .22LR Conversion Kit is for 5.56/.223 chambered MSR Rifles only. Installed this in an old 16" 5.56 barrel a few days ago and finally took it to the range today. It worked perfectly! Used CCI standard velocity and CCI Mini-Mags, ran about 100 rounds through it with no failures to feed or fire.I'm using an AR Catch22v2 bolt stop add-on that slides over the standard milspec bolt catch, which works exactly the same as the milspec bolt catch. The magazine I'm using has a follower that will hold the bolt open after the last round, but when the mag is removed, the bolt will close unless you pull it all the way back to manually engage the bolt stop. This is a great way to get some relatively quiet trigger time without breaking the bank for ammo.

I read all the reviews and watched all the videos and was a little skeptical about double feeds and jams… Nope put 300 flawless rounds of CCI mini mags through my Radical 5.56-.223 without a single hitch. The 10 round mags were converted to a much larger capacity before I ever even slapped one in the mag well. Love this thing. Accurate enough at through my Radical to consistently hit a 6 inch plate standing offhand, at a distance of 75 yards. Almost went for a BCA .22 complete upper but saw a few reviews that put me off. Glad I bought this instead. Saving big bucks being able to fire .22 through my favorite AR15 is pretty cool!

The big question is, do you want a conversion kit, a dedicated 22lr upper or a complete gun? This is the best AR15 22lr conversion out there and it's popularity & price speak for itself. But with the limitations of a conversion kit come a couple issues. 1st and foremost, due to the kit needing to function with a maximum number of mil spec AR clones, the action is way too stiff and the mags are pretty dang big and heavy for 10 rounders. More on that later…This kit functioned (almost) flawlessly with premium ultra velocity 22lr, but would not take the cheap stuff. Likely after a few thousand rounds (I'm currently at around 800,) the spring would soften up and cycle generic high-velocity ammo, but outta the box it wants only good quality 1200+ ft/second stuff like Aguila 22lr Super Extra 1280fps.If I'm using good, high speed ammo, it shoots great and outside of a couple stovepipe, it's been wonderful. If you try Walmart's cheapest federal white box? You're probably gonna have a single shot cause the bolt won't fully cycle. The only mags that are widely available are the CMMG 10 round pinned mags. Most websites are out of the 25's. Frankly, a 10 round mag should not be as big and heavy as a standard capacity AR mag. This is super easy to remedy with needle nose pliers, an Allen wrench and a utility knife. The only thing keeping these mags from holding a standard capacity is an easy to remove stainless steel pin. This will not help you, of course, if you live in a ban state, as modifying mags to allow them to function as intended may be a felony in your state. YMMV.I would highly recommend this to AR15 enthusiasts on a budget. It's a ton of fun and a great training tool since you keep your actual AR15 trigger and optics. It will hit low compared to 556 due to 22lr velocity, but that's easily remedied if you don't mind re-zeroing your optics. At 200 to 250 bucks it's half what you'll pay for an a nice 22lr ar style rifle (I'm looking at $500 plus mags for a S&W 15/22, which is a really nice gun but not actually an ar15 clone,) or a third of what you'll pay for an actual ar15 clone in 22lr. So if you wanna save money, you want this. If money isn't an issue? Get a complete 22lr upper from CMMG instead, supposedly they're really nice although I've not seen em in stock. On that note: you will hear people say that 22lr outta an AR15 barrel is inherently inaccurate due to the larger barrel size (556 NATO barrels are around a thousandth larger than 22lr barrels.) This was not the case on either of the ARs I shot this in. Accuracy was very good, and more dependent on ammo quality than barrel.Overall, I would definitely recommend this to AR15 owners who wanna save money on ammo, get new shooters into the sport without worrying about recoil or just wanna have a fun time at the range.

My wife was away. I told her I didn't like her being gone. She responded, "Deal with it!" Now, that is inarguable permission to buy gun stuff. Thus, my CMMG. Believe when recommended CCI Sub-Sonic. Way better accuracy than anything else I tried. A real hoot though.

Easy installation and so fun to shoot with it! Blowing through my .22LR ammo, even with 10rd mags, thanks for that WA state. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to dedicate one AR to this, but it does seem likely.

I have been going to the range a lot lately and the .223 ammo cost is getting prohibitively expensive. I found this kit online and started researching and watching review videos. I was hesitant to purchase this conversion because I saw a number of reviews stating that it did not work in PSA uppers without some modification. In the end, I decided to pull the proverbial trigger and ordered the kit. MAN am I glad I did. The bolt fit perfectly in both of my PSA uppers with NO modifications. The very first 2 rounds that I fired has issues, one failure to fire, and one failure to eject, the 198 shots that followed ran perfectly. I am using the cheapest .22LR ammo I could find (GECO 40gr bulk pack) and the conversion ate it up. It was an absolute blast shooting .22LR out of my AR's. I also found that the accuracy was far better than I had expected. If you are on the fence about ordering this conversions kit, just do it. You will be glad you did!!
